ABOUT THE CLASS
We have three rules in E-9…
I use Pau-Wa-Lu’s discipline policy.
Grades are earned, not given. So if you “Work Hard” you can earn that A that I know you are capable of! You and your parents can keep track of grades through Infinite Campus (link is on the Pau-Wa-Lu website). Grades are updated weekly, so check often. Grades will be calculated using a percentage basis, so each type of activity will be valued as a percent of you grade (assignments will have a point total assigned, but the percentage value will be reflected in the gradebook).
ACTIVITY VALUE (%)
Participation & Effort 10
Prime Reading 10
Participation and Effort- you are expected to come to class each day ready and willing to work. We will be sharing our thoughts and ideas, working in groups, as well as completing tasks and assignments independently. Sponges are part of your participation and effort grade.
Projects/Activities- Throughout the semester you will have various projects (writing assignments, art projects, performances, worksheets, etc). Most of these will be in class, but some work will be assigned or to be completed at home.
Homework- Homework is not a regular occurrence in class, but you will have some on occasion. It is vital that you complete homework by the due date as most assignments are built upon (i.e. a rough draft turned into a final draft). When homework assignments are due for class it will be posted on the class website. HOWEVER…. Reading is a HUGE part of your grade and you need to be reading 20 minutes every night at home.
Late work is defined as any work not completed and handed in by the due date, except in the case of legitimate absence.
Grading Policy for Late Work
Quizzes and Tests-
Quizzes and Tests are a way for both you and I to evaluate your progress and find any areas of concern. Quizzes will be given as we complete certain skills or tasks- around every 3 weeks. Tests will be taken as we complete books, units in Spring Board, or an essay or paper may be considered a test- these occur around every 6-8 weeks. Tests and quizzes can ALWAYS be retaken!
